Kings take 2 in Michigan

AULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – The Thunder Bay major midget Kings are returning home from Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., after taking a pair of exhibition games from the U.S. Soo AAA side over the weekend.

Thunder Bay played spotless defence and picked up some key offensive contributions in recording two shutouts, by a 4-0 count Saturday, before capping off the trip with a 2-0 triumph Sunday.

In Saturday’s victory, the Kings picked up tallies from Travis Hensrud, Peter Hannula, Jordan Baranesky and Mackenzie Sedgwick while Nicholas DeGrazia and Nikolas Campbell chipped in with two assists apiece.

Thunder Bay outshot to Soo 32-15 with Eric Vanska posting the shutout.

Sunday’s triumph saw Jordan Smith make 16 saves is securing the clean sheet in goal for the Kings.

Supplying the markers in the decision were DeGrazia and Baranesky.

The club now returns home for two Lakehead Junior Hockey League contests this week as they take on the Northern Hawks Tuesday and the Fighting Walleye Tuesday in a pair of 8 p.m. starts at the Tournament Centre.
