INNIPEG – The Thunder Bay bantam Kings wrapped up play in the Jets AAA Classic in Winnipeg Sunday falling 3-1 to Maple Leaf Athletic Club from Edmonton to finish 1-4 overall in the 16-team field.
Thunder Bay dropped decisions to the St. Albert Sabres of Alberta (5-3); Winnipeg Monarchs (7-1) and Winnipeg Hawks (5-1) in round robin play while defeating the Minot Wolves (2-1) from North Dakota.
Zach Biniaris paced the Kings in scoring in the tournament with four points, including a pair of tallies, while Carter Anton chipped with three points and Alex Remenda had two goals to his credit.
Keenan Marks and Daniel Giardino both saw time in net over the course of the event.
Meanwhile at the Silver Stick in Whitby, Ont., Thunder Bay wrapped up competition in 30-team AAA minor midget division by going 1-1-2 after four contests.
Julian Lefebvre posted the shutout in the club’s 1-0 triumph over the Edmonton SSAC Bulldogs.
The Kings also skated to a 1-1 tie with Detroit Little Caesars and a 3-3 draw against the Mississauga Rebels while dropping a 3-0 decision to the North Central Predators from Orillia.
Alex Atwill led his side in scoring with three points with Jeremy Dunmore and Alex Pineau both picking up a pair of points each.
The squad also had respectable goaltending in Whitby with Lefebvre finishing with a 1.61 goals-against average while Gage Stewart had a 2.14 GAA.
Also, the peewee Kings had a three-game trip to Duluth last weekend where they finished 1-2.
They dropped a 6-3 decision to the Chaska-Chanhassen SMARLhawks and were edged 4-3 by the Hermantown Hawks before finishing the trip to Minnesota with a 4-2 victory vs. the Duluth East Greyhounds.
Matthew Lysak scored twice for Thunder Bay in the setback against the SMARLhawks while Owen Renn had the other.
In the defeat vs. Hermantown, Nicholas Holomego, Nolen Sloan and Jack Lambert all tallied with Morgan Henderson, Max Leduc, Ermson DeGiacomo and Lucas Bertolin all connecting for the Kings in the win against the Greyhounds while Lysak dished out a pair of assists.
In net, Carter George and Chase Furlong each saw action between the pipes.
This upcoming weekend will be another busy one for the Kings as the major and minor midget sides will be in Blaine, Minn., for Round 4 of North American Prospects Hockey League action while the bantams will also be in Blaine for the NAHL Future Prospects tournament.
