Major midget Kings’ DeGagne named NAPHL U-18 coach of the year

FRISCO, Tex. – The North American Prospects Hockey League (NAPHL) announced Thursday that Thunder Bay major midget Kings bench boss Rob DeGagne has been named their under-18 division coach of the year for 2016-17.

DeGagne guided the major midgets to a ninth place finish in the 18-team U-18 division where they went 10-9-1-2 in 22 games as well as a solid 3-1 run at the league’s Dixon Cup championship tournament in Troy, Mich., back in February.

Meanwhile four members of the Kings squad were selected to the NAPHL U-18 all-Academic team for their scholastic efforts.

Earning the honours there were goaltender Ryan Fanti, defencemen Alex Grant and Thomas Brassard along with forward Robert Tyska.

To qualify for the All-NAPHL Academic Team, student-athletes must have achieved certain academic standards during the 2016-17 school year.

The Hockey Northwestern Ontario AAA midget district champion Kings are now gearing up for next week’s TELUS Cup West Regional in Beausejour, Man., which runs March 30 through April 2.
