Peewee Kings earn silver medal in Duluth tourney

DULUTH, Minn. – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings have returned home following a silver medal performance at the Gales of November tournament in Duluth, Minn., over the weekend.

The Kings began round robin play in the eight-team event with a narrow 2-1 triumph over the Minneapolis SMARL.

Connor Larrett gave Thunder Bay the early lead in that contest before the SMARL drew level later in the session.

It stayed tied at 1-1 less than five minutes to go in regulation when Larrett set-up Owen Vortmann for the game-winner.

Up next for the squad was a 5-3 victory over the St. James Canadians from Winnipeg.

Braydon Piccinin, Easton Glousher, E.J. Paddington, Larrett and Vortmann supplied the tallies for Thunder Bay in that one.

They then finished round robin play with a 7-1 setback against a strong Hermantown Hawks side with Glousher picking up the lone Thunder Bay marker.

Despite the loss their 2-1 record was enough to see the squad advance to the tournament semifinals where they defeated the Farmington Tigers from Minnesota 2-0.

Jonathan Beaucage notched the winning goal for the Kings in that one while Glousher had the other offensive effort.

Moving on to the final, Thunder Bay once again met powerful Hermantown, where the Hawks skated to a 8-0 win to claim the title and give the Kings the silver.

Backstopping the peewees to the medal in their first tourney of the season were goaltenders Oliver Tuchenhagen and Carter George.
