Major midget Kings’ Fanti earns NAPHL accolades

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The North American Prospects Hockey League has announced that Thunder Bay major midget Kings netminder Ryan Fanti has been named its Apex Learning Virtual School Peak performer of the month for January in the goaltender category.

The players were selected based upon their performance at the fifth NAPHL event of the season, which took place in Troy, Mich., January 6-9.

The 17-year-old Fanti went a perfect 3-0 in Troy with two shutouts while stopping 59 of 60 shots he faced along the way in the recording his three wins, which included a pair of shutouts.

Fanti’s efforts helped the Kings secure one of the 10 spots in the NAPHL’s under-18 Gold Division playoffs.

The Thunder Bay product began by posting a 24-save shutout in a 1-0 shootout triumph over the Washington Little Capitals.

He followed that up with 14 stops in the Kings 3-1 victory vs. the Wenatchee Wild of Washington State.

Fanti then finished up with 21 saves in a 1-0 shutout win over Pursuit of Excellence of Kelowna, B.C., to secure the club’s NAPHL playoff berth.

Both the major and minor midget Kings will be in Troy, Mich., Feb. 17-20 for the final NAPHL event of the 2016-17 season as they compete in the Dixon Cup Championship at the Troy Sports Center.
