Peewee Kings win twice; bantams go 0-1-1 Friday
BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay peewee Kings are off to a 2-0 start at the Minnesota Gone Wild tournament, powered by OneHockey in Blaine, Minn., while the bantams remain winless at the 55th annual Silver Stick International tournament in Port Huron, Mich., after a tie and a loss Friday.
The peewees edged the River East Marauders of Manitoba 3-2 and then outscored the San Diego Jr. Gulls 7-5 later in the day.
As for the bantams they rallied for a 3-3 draw vs. the York-Simcoe Express before being humbled 9-2 by the Chicago Fury.
Peewee action saw the Kings fall behind to River East before Emerson Pelletier fired a shot towards the net that found its way in to knot the affair at 1-1 with three and a half minutes left in the first period.
Alex Arella then put Thunder Bay ahead with the lone tally of the middle session.
Alex Remenda added to the cushion early in the third before the Marauders added one in the final minute to round out the scoring.
Oliver Tuchenhagen registered the win in goal.
Taking on San Diego the Kings got a pair of goals and an assist from Mannerplaw Winning while Remenda scored once and set-up two others in the triumph over the Gulls.
Zach Binarias, Connor Chisholm, Owen Loubier and Jack Pineau also scored for Thunder Bay while Jett Mintenko dished out a pair of assists.
Keenan Marks posted the victory in net.
Saturday has the peewees taking on Omaha AAA of Nebraska and the Iowa Wild at 8 a.m. and 2:35 p.m. respectively.
Bantam play Friday saw the Kings rally to earn the draw with York-Simcoe.
The Express grabbed the lead midway through the first period before Thunder Bay tied it on an Alex Atwill effort assisted by Nikolas Campbell and Kohl Johnson.
After York-Simcoe went back in front before the opening session was complete, they added another early in the middle stanza to go up by a pair.
Michael Stubbs pulled his side back to within one with three minutes left in the second while Dylan Bertrand notched the equalizer with 7:54 remaining in regulation.
Stephan Bourgeois was in net for Thunder Bay in the contest.
Taking on Chicago, the Fury sMARLed out to a 5-1 lead after one and tacked on four more in the middle session to take complete control of the contest.
Nikolas Campbell and Dawson Lampi scored for the Kings in the one-sided setback.
Connor Lemieux suffered the loss in goal.
The bantam will conclude play Saturday in Port Huron at 2 p.m. against Belle Tire of Detroit.
