Bantam and peewee Kings Big Nickel bound

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – Both the Thunder Bay bantam and peewee Kings are off to Sudbury later in the week to compete in the 37th annual Big Nickel AAA hockey tournament.

Game action for the bantams begins Thursday evening at 8 p.m. as they take on the Ajax-Pickering Raiders.

Two tilts will be on the club’s slate Friday starting with an 11:15 a.m. encounter vs. the North Central Predators of Orillia before wrapping up the day against the Timmins Eagles at 5 p.m.

The Guelph Jr. Gryphons provide the opposition Saturday in another 11:15 a.m. start.

As for the Thunder Bay peewees, they’ll begin with a pair of match-ups on their docket Friday beginning with a 9:30 a.m. face-off vs. the North Bay Trappers.

Next up for the Kings will be the Central Ontario Wolves at 3:30 p.m.

Saturday morning features an 8 a.m. meeting with the Waterloo Wolves before they tangle with the York-Simcoe Express at 5 p.m.

There are 13 teams competing in the AAA bantam division while the peewee side features nine clubs taking part.

Quarter-final action in the bantam bracket goes Saturday while both ages groups will hold the semifinals and championship contests Sunday.
