Bantam Kings off to NAPHL Future Prospects tournament final

BLAINE, Minn. – The Thunder Bay bantam Kings are off to the championship game of the NAPHL Future Prospects tournament taking place in Blaine, Minn.

Thunder Bay punched their ticket to the final Monday against Omaha AAA of Nebraska at 1 p.m. after sweeping a pair of contests against the Affton Americans of Missouri Sunday.

The Kings blanked Affton 4-0 in their final round robin game before going on the drop the Americans 7-1 in semifinal action.

In the opener vs. Affton, Connor Lemieux stopped all 15 shots he had to handle to record the shutout for Thunder Bay.

Nicholas DeGrazia picked up the eventual game-winner 5:18 into the contest with Michael Stubbs and Alex Atwill providing assists.

Stubbs then extended the Kings’ lead early in the second while DeGrazia and Owen Perala added insurance efforts in the third.

Konner Kuuskivi and Stubbs dished out two assists apiece to aid the Thunder Bay cause.

In the semifinal meeting against the Americans, Stubbs was once again a huge key to the Kings success as he notched a hat trick while Nikolas Campbell doled out four assists to lead the club to victory.

Kuuskivi added two more helpers in the game as did Matthew Halushak and Alex Pineau.

It was all Thunder Bay early as they struck three times in the first with Mackenzie Sedgwick starting things off before Stubbs provided his initial two markers.

Stubbs added another in the second to make it 4-0 before teammate Dawson Lampi extended the lead.

Affton got one back late in the second before Perala and Trystan Goodman rounded out the scoring in the final frame.

Stephan Bourgeois stopped 17 of 18 in picking up the win.

Of note Stubbs now leads all skaters in the 16-team under-14 division of the NAPHL Future Prospects in goals with 13 while sitting second in total points with 15.
