Kings announce 2nd quarter CCM Hockey performer award recipients

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay Kings announced Friday their second CCM Hockey quarterly performer award recipients for the 2016-17 season.

Earning the accolades for their contributions from each of the four Kings teams is as follows:

MAJOR MIDGET – QUINTIN LOON-STEWARDSON: The 16-year-old Sioux Lookout product has had a solid season to date for the major midgets.

He presently leads the under-18 Kings in scoring in North American Prospects Hockey League play averaging close to a point-per-game with 16 in 17 outings on nine goals and seven assists.

Loon-Stewardson also represented the club in the NAPHL All-Star Game held earlier this month in Blaine, Minn.

The forward also has 25 points for the U-18 Kings in Lakehead Junior Hockey League action, including 13 tallies.

MINOR MIDGET – JOSEPH MCCOLLUM: The minor midget defenceman has bolstered the team’s defensive play throughout the first half of the season.

McCollum has also contributed with a goal and four assists in his first 17 NAPHL under-16 contests so far in the 2016-17 campaign.

The U-16 D-man made the jump to minor midget after spending last season with the bantam Kings.

BANTAM – MICHAEL STUBBS: The bantam Kings forward was an offensive force helping them capture the North American Future Prospects earlier in December.

Through nine NAFP games on the year he has notched an impressive 15 goals and dished out two assists.

His tally total leads all NAFP skaters and he’s also tied for top spot in overall scoring.

Stubbs is in his second season with the bantam Kings.

PEEWEE – JACK PINEAU: Earning the peewee Kings CCM second quarterly accolades is Pineau.

The forward is skating in his second consecutive year with the peewees.

“His play has been stellar all season and really stepped up as of late to be a dominant player for our team,” stated the team’s head coach Chris Whitley.

“He’s very deserving of this recognition,” added the peewee’s bench boss.
