Kings drop OHL Cup opener

TORONTO – The Niagara North Stars rallied from a two-goal deficit in the third period by scoring four unanswered markers to defeat the Thunder Bay minor midget Kings 5-3 Wednesday at the OHL Cup in Toronto.

Niagara did get off to a good start notching the game’s opening effort 56 seconds in courtesy of Tanner Vail.

Thunder Bay countered by connecting on the power play at 3:14 thanks to Michael Larizza to knot it at 1-1 through one.

The Kings picked up the lone tally in the middle frame as Robert Tyska found the back of the net at 4:41.

After Fletcher Anderson put the minor midgets up by a couple 75 seconds into the third Niagara sMARLed back as they struck four times in the final 12 minutes to complete the comeback win.

Hunter Holmes scored three of those markers for the North Stars, including the game-winner during a man advantage opportunity with 4:23 remaining before icing it with an empty netter in the final seconds.

Jaleel Adams picked up the other Niagara goal.

Michael Vecchio had two assists for the Kings while Seth Adams suffered the in the loss in net.

Thunder Bay returns to the ice tonight at 7 p.m. when they take on the Waterloo Wolves.

Earning player of the game laurels were Holmes and the Kings’ Anderson.
