Kings fall to Mississauga at bantam provincials

ROCKLAND, Ont. – The Thunder Bay Kings dropped a 3-0 decision to the Mississauga Rebels Thursday morning in Day 4 play at the all-Ontario AAA bantam championship in Rockland, Ont.

With the loss Thunder Bay saw their record slip to 2-3 and now face a must-win game this after at 3 p.m. vs. the North Bay Trappers.

They will also require a victory by the Ottawa Senators over the London Jr. Knights in another game later today if they hope to crack the top four in the seven-team overall standings and advance to the semifinals on Friday.

In the contest vs. Mississauga, it was a tightly played match-up with the two sides playing a scoreless first period.

The Rebels would get the eventual game-winner with 4:18 remaining in the second stanza from Case McCarthy.

Mississauga’s Ty Jackson added an insurance marker, via the power play, in the final two minutes of the third before finishing things off with an empty net effort from John Poirier with 22 seconds remaining.

Christian Sbaraglia stopped all 15 shots he faced to post the shutout for the Rebels.

Jordan Smith meanwhile stopped 31 of 33 in defeat for the Kings.
