Midget Kings heading to Michigan for 5th round of NAPHL

THUNDER BAY – The Thunder Bay major and minor midget Kings will both be heading to Troy, Mich., this weekend for the fifth round of North American Prospects Hockey League play.

Major midget action begins Friday at 7 a.m. as they square off against the Esmark Stars of Pennsylvania at 7 a.m.

Up next will be a 7:15 p.m. contest vs. the Washington Capitals under-18 squad.

Saturday has them playing the Madison Capitols U-18’s at 2:15 p.m.

Sunday’s lone contest has the Kings tangling with the Wenatchee Wolves from Washington State, also at 2:15 p.m.

They then wrap things up with a 7 a.m. meeting with Pursuit of Excellence from Kelowna, B.C.

Through their first 17 NAPHL games this season the major midgets sit 11th overall in the 18-team U-18 division with a 6-8-1-2 record.

As for the minor midget under-16 side, they’ll open up Friday against the Washington Capitals U-16’s at 11:15 a.m.

They’ll then take to the ice twice Saturday starting with a 10:15 a.m. encounter with Esmark before concluding with a 6 p.m. match-up vs. Madison.

Sunday has them meeting Omaha AAA of Nebraska at 4 p.m. before concluding the regular season Monday as they meet the New Jersey Titans at 11 a.m.

The minor midgets are tied for eighth spot among 17 U-16 clubs with a 9-7-0-1 mark.
