Toronto tops Thunder Bay in Kings’ OHL Cup finale

TORONTO – The Thunder Bay minor midget Kings concluded their season with a 5-1 loss at the hands of the Toronto Jr. Canadiens Friday at the OHL Cup in Toronto.

The Jr. Canadiens struck quickly in the contest notching the game’s initial tally 36 seconds after the opening face-off on a Matthew Falls marker.

Thunder Bay drew level 6:12 into the middle stanza on Robert’s Tyska’s second goal of the tournament.

It did not stay tied for long however as Toronto retook the lead on the next shift as Alexander DiPaolo put his side back in front for good 51 seconds after that.

The Jr. Canadiens then added to their cushion with a pair of tallies early in the third from Sergey Popov and Justin Paul before rounding out the scoring on a Kirill Nizhnikov effort with 5:16 to go.

Christian Mattiace picked up the win in goal for Toronto while Scott Adams suffered the loss for the Kings.

Tyska was named Thunder Bay’s player of the game while Falls earned the laurels for TJC.

The Kings finished round robin play in the OHL Cup with a 1-3 record.
