Peewee & bantam Kings gearing up for Spirit of Duluth tourney

HUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Thunder Bay peewee and bantam Kings will be heading down Highway 61 later this week to compete in the 42nd annual Spirit of Duluth Hockey Tournament.

For the Thunder Bay peewees, they’ll be in search of their third consecutive tourney title after coming away victorious in both the Sudbury Big Nickel and Duluth’s Gales of November events last month.

They’ll open up play Friday at 9 a.m. ET as they take on the Eden Prairie Eagles.

Later in the day, they’ll take on another suburban Minneapolis side with a 5 p.m. encounter with the Osseo-Maple Grove Orioles.

They’ll then meet the Arizona Bobcats Saturday at 1 p.m.

As for the bantams, their initial opponent will be the Minnetonka Skippers Friday in a 1 p.m. start.

Saturday’s slate has them going up against the Elk River Elks at 9 a.m. followed by a 5:15 p.m. match-up vs. the Lakeville North Panthers.

A total of 16 teams, per division, will be competing for the titles in both the peewee and bantam brackets.

Playoff and consolation round games go Sunday.
